about
I wrote this song In January 2015. I had just arrived in Dublin to join a world tour and my first day of rehearsals was the following morning. Watching the news in my hotel room I saw coverage of young children, particularly of a young girl, in the midst of war and I felt troubled by the brutality that the poor innocent children had faced.
I couldn’t sleep that night and felt compelled to write this song as the words and melody raced through my thoughts. The song questions who is to blame for their suffering, how did it start, who pulled the trigger? I stayed up until the early hours writing and the song became a poignant start to the next 14 months on the road.
lyrics
Who Pulled The Trigger
Torn apart with such disgrace
Broken lives, nowhere to feel safe
Hide or run, cry, die fight fate
They take it all, blow down the walls
Inspired to find their pot of gold
Bloodied hands leave troubled souls
And now, who’s gonna pour her water
And now, who’s gonna take the blame
Who pulled the trigger
Her face disfigured
Who pulled the trigger
Poor child so severed
A massacre of war and games
Troubled minds feed troubled souls
Trained for life to be so cold
A soldier dies, cry for no war
Terrorised by such defeat
The enemy so full of greed
What’s left but burdens
Try find peace
And now, who’s gonna pour her water
And now, who’s gonna take the blame
Who pulled the trigger
Her face disfigured
Who pulled the trigger
Poor child so severed
A massacre of war and games
Missiles flying, people dying
Power hungry, country gain
Terror danger, violators
Burning through with faceless rage
Fearless fighters, torture, violence
Children, minors, can’t be safe
Break the system, be no victim
Challenge every step they make
Who pulled the trigger
Her face disfigured
Who pulled the trigger
Poor child so severed
Who pulled the trigger
Her face disfigured
Who pulled the trigger
Poor child so severed
A massacre of war and games
